about artsouthwa

In 1998, the Australia Council launched a one-off funding program designed to respond to the needs of regional and remote artists and art organisations. Funds were allocated for a variety of projects focusing on practical and professional development. At the end of a long consultative process, it was decided that, in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia, a Steering Committee would develop a regional marketing strategy to increase the opportunities for artist participation in cultural tourism. The organisation formed from this committee is now known as artsouth wa .

The aims of artsouth wa include:

  • Compile a comprehensive database of all the arts and crafts practitioners in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia.
  • Produce a website to host this database and provide access to its content. All arts and crafts practitioners will be given an opportunity to have a web page on this site.
  • Prepare a brochure and map of all the open artists' studios and arts and crafts galleries in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia.
