2009 City of Albany Art Prize Call for Entries

Artists, fancy some solid studio time, away from everyday pressures?   How does four weeks in a self-contained studio cottage, at the VAC sound?  The 2009 City of Albany Art Prize now offers artists the chance to win up to 4 weeks studio time, with $2500 for expenses, in addition to the major cash prize of $25 000.  The studio aspect of the prize recognizes that many artists juggle one or more jobs to fund their art practice, and that a solid period to think and make art can be an elusive dream.  The winning painting is acquired by the City of Albany Art Collection.

Entries for pre-selection close on December 12, 2008.   The 30 selected paintings will be exhibited from April 4-27, 2009, at the Vancouver Arts Centre.  Go to www.albanyartprize.com.au to find out more and to download the Entry Form and Conditions, or email artprize@albany.wa.gov.au to have them posted to you.

RESURRECT

An artist in residence project and exhibition In partnership with the Vancouver Arts Centre, City of Albany, Cleanaway, and Open Access Youth Art Studio Creative Producer: Sue Codee.

RESURRECT is an artist in residence program featuring Cecile Williams and Peter Keelan beginning October 2008.  The project will be based at a studio (yes a studio!) at the Albany Landfill site and will include a series of community and artists workshops, resulting in an exhibition at the Vancouver Arts Centre opening November 6 which will continue until November 22.

This project explores the theme of recycling and re-using. Both Cecile and Peter specialise in working with re-cycled materials- Cecile from a visual arts background, and Peter from a musicians background. Artwork created by the artists in residence, local artists, and community members will be part of a two part exhibition- some larger scale artwork will be created to be situated at the new interpretive trail and
Educational Centre at the refuse site, while smaller artworks will be part of the curated exhibition of recycled artwork at the VAC.

So we are calling out to all artists (and interested budding artists) who would like to be involved in this project to start thinking about the theme and developing ideas. There will be the opportunity to work
with these two amazing artists, who will be in residence at the Landfill Site Studio from approximately October 20, to refine your ideas and works for the exhibition in the weeks leading up to the exhibition. To register your interest in being involved, and so that you can continue to receive information as this projects unfolds, or for any other information on the project please click here to contact the coordinator Sue Codee or phone 0428130500.
