  Background

I was born in Perth and lived there until moving to Albany in 1999. Soon after arriving, I joined the Albany Art Group. I have painted and drawn since I was old enough to hold a brush. I did many painting courses at TAFE and with local artists, but I never had the courage to exhibit until the guidance of, and ideas shared with, members of the group inspired me to become a more adventurous artist, exploring different techniques and subjects.

  Work Overview

Although I began painting in oils, I now work in a variety of media, mainly acrylics, but also pastels, watercolour and mixed media. I like to experiment with different media, trying to find the best one for each painting. Although I occasionally work on location, I most often work from an idea gained from something I have seen. Recently, I have been experimenting with texture, using pumice and crumpled up tissue paper on my canvasses. In the featured painting I used the tissue paper just on the lower part of the canvas, and a happy accident gave me vertical folds that I could use as the tree trunks. Several of my paintings now hang in private collections, both in local areas and the eastern states of Australia, and a few have been taken to overseas countries, including Switzerland and Ireland.
